Behold my genius!! Budget Bra!! All you need is a roll of painters tape, and 15 minutes!
(I'm sure someone has already done this so I'm clearly not the first. :p)
The horrible weather on Saturday did a number on the front end of “The Red E”, chips and whatnot. I’ve ordered some Dr Colorchip to see if it’ll make her look a Little more presentable and not like the face of a puberty laden teenager.
She’ll be wearing this bra until the paint comes in and I can take care of that. So far, it's wörking excellent on the freeway!
Have an RS5 I’ve parked next to at my tennis match tonight. I think the blue on red looks kinda cool actually.

Looks like some sort of old race livery. I like it.

Works wonders, until it gets wet and dries again, then it’ll become nearly impossible to get back off in any sort of civilized fashion... ask me how I know.

If you buy Scotch Blue Edge-Lock, it’s waterproof, so that might alleviate that issue.
I still wouldn’t leave any tape on for an extended period of time, though.

Good tip, any of the more expensive plasticized tapes are fine for a while in the wet. 3M makes a green tape that works wonders.

Let us know how you like Dr.Color Chip. My front end is bad, really really bad. I’ve been thinking about getting their kit. Which one did you get? I’m thinking I’ll pick up their road rash kit. But I’m not sure I need all of that. I would really just like to repair the larger chips. If it’s even possible for them to be.
Also the painters tape looks kind of cool on it....

You’re front end can’t be nearly as bad as mine....right? I’d hope not. Seeing as I’ve already got brushes and gloves and expendable microfibers and soft cloths, I just got the paint(1oz, largest they sell) and solvent(2oz, second largest).
In any case, I’ll be doing a review of that stuff when it arrives. Not sure when that’ll be. Also, if you take your car to a detailer, the should be more than capable of getting some of those chips as well. My favorite detailers did a few for me before the MSU show. But I have so many that it’s just not worth going to a shop to do it. So $62 and it should hopefully look adequate. I’m not looking for perfect, but it shouldn’t be noticeable from 10-15ft away!
I'll have to show you some pictures of what I'll be working with. It literally is a teenage face full of whiteheads.

go to some track days and you will see some very liberal use of painters tape on cars

Mine has been daily driven all its life. 104K miles. It’s just bad unfortunately. There’s a really noticeable and deep chip on the hood that I’m not even sure dr.color chip will fix. But it’s worth a shot. I’m hoping for the best.

That too. It comes in their headlight restoration kit that I used on my Civic and it worked great. The reason I mentioned the Edge-Lock is because I ran out of the green stuff on the second car and that was the only tape I had handy that worked similarly.

Hopefully it doesn’t do like my crown vic where the tape adheres to the paint better than the paint adheres to the primer and it all comes off (easily) in a sheet. Thanks, Ford!
